South Melbourne Market is over 150 years old and dates back to the days of horse and cart. So it is able to claim that it does have some history. It actually opened all the way back in 1867 and was a farmers market.

So I wasn't around all the way back then. But I can tell you that they have no sheep or pig`s roaming around or even in the last 30 Years for that fact. Today South Melbourne Market has a lot to offer so I expect it will still be around for some time to come.

The Market has a well balanced variety of general merchandises with not much repetitiveness. In other words it packs a great deal of content into it. If it’s your first time visiting the Market you want to give yourself some time to walk it.

After all that shopping, you may want to relax and enjoy a meal at one of the many great places to eat. When it comes to filling yourself up on your favorite meal, there are restaurants where you can pull up chair. I know because every morning before work without fail I`ll need one.

So let me keep this short the other major attraction if not the biggest is the Market`s fresh produce. There’s lots & lots of it. Green grocers, seafood, delicatessens, butchers, a nut shop, and more.
